Windows Server Installation Checklist

Pre-Installation Steps

Verify hardware compatibility with Windows Server requirements
Back up any existing data
Prepare installation media (USB or ISO)
Gather necessary product keys and licensing information
Plan network configuration (IP addresses, hostnames, domain details)

Installation Process

Boot from installation media
Select language, time/currency format, and input method
Click "Install now"
Enter product key or choose "I don't have a product key" for evaluation
Select the edition of Windows Server to install
Accept license terms
Choose between "Upgrade" or "Custom" installation (typically "Custom" for new installs)
Select and format the drive for installation
Wait for initial installation to complete

Initial Configuration

Set administrator password
Log in to the new installation
Configure network settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS)
Set computer name
Configure Windows Update settings
Install critical updates

Post-Installation Tasks

Install necessary roles and features
Configure Remote Desktop if needed
Set up Windows Firewall rules

Set up backup and recovery options
Document server configuration and installed roles/features
