Windows Desktop Installation Checklist

Pre-Installation Steps

Back up all important data from the existing system
Verify system requirements for the Windows version you're installing
Download the latest Windows ISO from the official Microsoft website
Create a bootable USB drive using the Windows Media Creation Tool
Gather necessary drivers for your hardware (especially network and graphics)

BIOS/UEFI Configuration

Enter BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, F12, or Del during startup)
Set boot order to prioritize USB drive
Disable Secure Boot if necessary
Enable UEFI boot mode (recommended for modern installations)
Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI

Installation Process

Boot from the Windows installation USB
Select language, time and currency format, and keyboard input
Click "Install Now"
Enter your product key or select "I don't have a product key" to activate later
Choose the edition of Windows you want to install
Accept the license terms
Select "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)" for a clean installation
Delete existing partitions if performing a clean install
Select the unallocated space and click "Next" to let Windows create necessary partitions
Wait for the installation process to complete (the system will restart several times)

Post-Installation Configuration

Select your region
Choose your keyboard layout
Set up network connection (skip if you want to set up offline)
Create a user account
Set up a PIN or password
Choose privacy settings
Wait for initial setup to complete

Final Steps

Check for and install Windows updates
Install necessary device drivers
Activate Windows if not done during installation
Install essential software (antivirus, office suite, browsers, etc.)
Restore your backed-up data
Customize Windows settings to your preferences
